Junk Patterns

Using various forms of junk (lids, keys, caps, box tops, etc.) children will recognize a pattern that you have created (in whole group setting). Students will then choose another item that will complete the pattern. One teacher, Mrs. Sirois, suggests keeping the junk in a shoebox. Students can send in the junk for the boxes and you can collect throughout the year. You can create size patterns, color patterns, product patterns, and more using junk. The possibilities are endless!

Shape Hokey Pokey

You can sing the Hokey Pokey song but instead of using body parts sign, "Put your red square in," "Put your green circle in," etc. You should have the shapes cut out and laminated for durability. The shapes could be on a metal ring for them to choose from or laying out on top of their table for easy pick-up. If you sang it in a particular sequence, or had a huge chart for them to look at as a model, it would help to keep the song moving along without delays.
