Paper Party Hats

You will need colored construction paper, a stapler or tape, a hole punch and yarn at the minimum. You may choose to have the children decorate the paper with markers, paints, crayons, glitter, stickers, sequins, etc. After the construction paper has dried, form a cone shape to fit each child's head. Staple the sides securely.[The cone shape is formed by rolling up the paper so the longer sides of the paper forms the top and bottom of the cone.] After you hae secured the shape with staples, cut the bottom of the cone so it is even all the way around. PUnch two holes in the hat near the bottom to attach a string (or elastic) that will secure the hat on the child's head.

New Year Resolutions

Discuss with children the tradition of making resolutions on New Years. Ask each child what New Year's Resolution they would like to make. Have them write or dictate their resolution on a bell shape labeled with the new year at the top. Cut out the bells and display on a bulletin board or hang from ceiling.

Bell Relay Race

Have a relay race where the first player has a bell on each wrist and ankle (four total). The children will run to the next person. When they get there they must take off all the bells and put them on the next person.The last person in the relay must take the bells off and put them on the first person in order to be the "winner."

Housekeeping

Stock the housekeeping center with party hats and noise makers. Pretend to countdown to the new year. [A lot of noise is rumored to 'scare away the old year' and welcome the new year.]
